I gave my life to Beşiktaş. For years I ran after him as a journalist.
I entered the club in 1986. I was following you step by step for a while.
What can I say, I’m from Beşiktaş anyway.
But I also learned manhood from the legends I met in Beşiktaş.
From Süleyman Seba, for example, from the great president.
I was proud to have a place at the friends table.
Şan Ökten, Metin Keçeli and my elder brothers, who I was with at that time, determined my character.
While sitting in his room in the old clubhouse in Akaretler, Cemil Ulusel, one of the club managers of the period, often showed the pictures of former football players, half of which were in oil paintings, on the walls, “Look, Gürel, who came and passed from this club. People are temporary, the main thing is Beşiktaş. Being a Beşiktaş fan is also different” I have never forgotten the speech he made many times.
I have never taken the advice of brother Süleyman from my ears.
Of course, it wasn’t just the results on the field and the trophies that made Süleyman Seba what Süleyman Seba was. It was a lifestyle. It was his point of view. It was his lordship.
It was his authoritarianism.
When I say authoritarianism… It wasn’t the authoritarianism that was established by walking around with a sullen face, mailing it to him, shouting and shouting.
Sometimes he would tell what he meant with his eyes without saying a word… It is interesting, the moments looking into his eyes were also what went through his head.
His “Beşiktaş stance” impressed everyone.
There were championships narrowly missed when he brought Gordon Milne to Beşiktaş; In those years when incentive bonus events were common… Invoice Milne was wanted to be issued, and campaigns were organized for it to be sent. He stood against it, and when there was talk of second place, he said the following statement that went down in history:
“Honoured runners-ups are better than dishonest titles.”
If he had entered the roads like incentive bonus in those times… The number of championships would have been 10, not 5. But he did not enter, he taught honesty and manliness to those who want to learn… While the candidates are giving their word at the congress of almost every club in Turkey, he said “We will be president like Süleyman Seba” to the congress members… His manhood was the target; not trophies.
“You can’t be a good Beşiktaş fan without being a good man” it was his word. This was the first condition of being a Beşiktaş fan.
“If you want to do good for Beşiktaş, don’t be anyone’s man, be for Beşiktaş” And then he was teaching everyone again…
Especially this word:
“Beşiktaş is not held for the sake of being a champion or winning a match. Being a Beşiktaş fan is a set of values. It is honesty, being moral.”
This is the recipe for being a Beşiktaş fan.
Today, there are millions of Beşiktaş fans who fit this description.
We saw 40 thousand of them at Vodafone Park last night. They proved to the world how Beşiktaş fans should be in their hearts beating for Turkey.
It was as if I saw Şan Ökten there. Cemil Ulusel, Hakkı Yeten and many more.
They also showed that Beşiktaş is not just a football team.
Besiktasism; to be moral, to be honest, to be patriotic.
It is to worry about those who are in trouble, to stand by those who are in trouble, to worry about what is happening all over the country.
That’s why those who get angry with this stance and resign does not reduce anything from Beşiktaş, on the contrary, it adds value.
Beşiktaş is Turkey. Beşiktaş in Turkey.
Those who still have not learned this, those who cannot understand that Beşiktaş is above politics, and those who do not know what Beşiktaş is, have already stayed too long.
What do you mean membership?
Besiktas is written in the hearts, it cannot be erased!
FROM THE LAST WORD BAZAAR: We do not oppose injustice because we are from Besiktas… We are already from Besiktas because we oppose injustice.”
