Nova Rock 2022 came to an end on Sunday. To wrap things up, Five Finger Death Punch and Billy Talent headlined the final night. A highlight was the performance of the rock band “Maneskin” on Friday.
On the final day of the festival, acts like Billy Talent, Finch and Airbourne got things going again. Nova Rock director Ewald Tatar took stock: “The festival has experienced a lot, but in the end it turned out to be what we all wanted: the big party, the big festival, the first one after the pandemic.” Being able to start the open air after heavy rain on Thursday was a “hussar ride”, says Tatar. The highlights of Nova Rock 2022 were clearly the Italian rock band “Maneskin”, who performed on Friday.

Mud, heat and lots of music: That was Nova Rock 2022
On request from ZAMG, around 70 millimeters of rain fell on the Pannonia Fields within 72 hours from Wednesday to Friday. The ground, which had softened a bit from the previous week’s rain, could no longer absorb the water. The result was long waiting times on arrival because the parking areas were inaccessible for a long time.

Billy Talent really heated up at the end of Nova Rock 2022
While the sun was around 30 degrees during the day on Sunday (or alternatively the tent had already been taken down), there was no stopping the Canadian rockers from Billy Talent in the evening: with a solid set full of hits (“Red Flag”, “Fallen Leaves”), the quartet, in which Loel Campbell is currently working as a substitute drummer, managed to teach a lesson in festival rock. The die-hard fans were taken away thanks to the powerful game, but they also reached the wider audience thanks to a performance that was always on point. Melody and heaviness balanced each other out, which also provided plenty of action in front of the stage with new numbers like “Reckless Paradise”.

Five Finger Death Punch back after the Corona break
The US metal band Five Finger Death Punch also started again after the Corona break, they played the first concert of their current European tour at Nova Rock. “Finally!” Said guitarist Zoltan Bathory in the APA interview. “The world has gotten really small for us in the last two years. Before that we were playing all over the world and suddenly there was this break. We really felt like we were in prison.” The time was also used creatively, as the new album “AfterLife” will be released in the summer. Bathory said the band felt hungrier than ever. “We have a new lineup, so there’s also a new energy. We’re ready, let’s burn this house down!”

Finch: “If I forget my lines, it’s your fault!”
That could also be said of Finch in the afternoon: The self-described “clown from East Berlin” is now on the road without his suffix “asocial”, but the rapper did it credit, as his lyrics were mainly about intoxicating substances and sex. After all, one of his battle cries is “No party without cocaine.” In keeping with the style, he presented himself on stage not only with a DJ and corapper, but also with his own bar – which of course led to several cocktails drunk on ex. “If I forget my lyrics, it’s your fault!” he let the goading audience know. It probably wouldn’t have mattered, at least the Nova Rockers showed themselves to be remarkably confident in their lyrics.

Airbourne guitarist let a roadie carry him on his shoulders
Airbourne vocalist and guitarist Joel O’Keeffe let a roadie carry him on his shoulders during the smash “Girls in Black,” still playing guitar, as the idiosyncratic duo paced the cheering rows surrounded by a slew of photographers. And of course a beer can was opened with a hit on the head and thrown into the audience. Rock’n’Roll can be so easy.

A lot of encouragement for metal band In Flames and Eluveitie
The Swedish metal band In Flames and the Swiss group Eluveitie, with plenty of medieval flair, were also very popular, combining massive breakdowns with flute playing and hurdy-gurdy. Unconventional, but apparently quite attractive for many festival visitors. The German reggae musician Gentleman also had to learn that loud guitars were very popular on this long music weekend. Unfortunately, only a small group danced at his performance on the Red Stage. Musical highlights in the past few days were Maneskin, Deichkind, Kraftklub and Muse. Placebo represented the Foo Fighters with their British undercooled but dense sound, whose guest performance would have been a premiere at Nova Rock.

Scooter already confirmed as late night act for Nova Rock 2023
The Nova Rock festival will take place from June 7th to 10th in 2023, and Scooter has already been confirmed as the late-night act. The fact that many bands who are almost part of the inventory of the Open Air took part this year caused a lot of discussion in advance. “The booking issue always polarizes,” said Tatar. “I already have ideas about who should play everything here. But unfortunately it often remains a wish because the bands aren’t there at the time, can’t come or maybe they’re not affordable. The Nova Rock concept won’t change. And It shouldn’t have been that wrong this year, we’re sold out.” Spread over all four days, 225,000 music fans were welcomed.
