The Works Council Modernization Act has been in force since June 18, 2021. The law contains some central points that give employees more protection: There are extensions to the simplified voting procedure, protection against dismissal during elections, accident insurance protection for home offices, the use of artificial intelligence, more rights of co-determination in mobile work and the promotion of vocational training. Works council meetings by means of video and telephone conferences have been enshrined in law. The possibility of contesting works council elections has been restricted. Attorney Ewald Bartl will present and critically examine the new legal regulations.
