Deadline for tax return for 2023
Anyone who is required to file a tax return for 2023 and is not assisted by a tax advisor must do so by September 2nd.
Organ donation declaration via health insurance app
Submitting an organ donation declaration is becoming easier: By September 30, it should be possible for insured persons to submit declarations for or against organ donation via health insurance apps. Since March, volunteers have been able to enter declarations of their willingness to donate organs and tissue in the central online register using the online function of their ID card.
Elections in three federal states
In Germany, the state parliaments in Saxony and Thuringia will be elected on September 1st. Elections will be held in Brandenburg on September 22nd.
Reservation requirement for international trains ends
Anyone who wanted to travel abroad by train during the summer months needed a reservation on almost all long-distance train connections – but that is now over. The temporary requirement to book a fixed seat ends on September 1st. The railway introduced the requirement due to the expected high demand for the European Football Championship in June. Only the reservation requirement between Munich and Zurich still applies until October 5th.
Deadline for final settlements for Corona aid
Recipients of state Corona economic aid can submit the final accounts for this until the end of September. These are necessary in order to compare the grants originally requested with those to which the applicants are actually entitled. This could lead to additional payments or repayments.
Stricter rules for hand luggage
From September 1st, passengers will only be allowed to carry liquids in containers of up to 100 milliliters and must pack them in a transparent plastic bag with a volume of no more than one liter. This liquid rule was suspended at some German control lanes when the luggage could be checked using new types of luggage scanners using the computer tomography (CT) technology known from medicine. But now the EU has doubts about the reliability of the CT scanners. That is why larger bottles are banned again.
Receipts for heating subsidies
As planned, from the end of September, the first group of applicants for the KfW heating subsidy will be able to submit the invoices and receipts for projects for which they have applied for a subsidy. This will be done digitally. Among the first to be allowed to submit the application in February are owners of single-family homes who use the house themselves. After the documents have been checked, the money will be paid out, probably for the first time at the end of October, according to a spokeswoman for the state development bank KfW.
Mont Blanc tunnel closed for 15 weeks due to construction work
German holidaymakers and freight companies must plan a detour on their way to northern Italy. The Mont Blanc motorway tunnel between France and northern Italy will be closed for 15 weeks from September 2nd due to construction work. Traffic must use alternative routes during the work.
