Berlin (dpa) – The start of the Champions League was promising for the German clubs with the exception of RB Leipzig, now the quartet can follow up with home wins.
In the Bundesliga, the focus is on the clash between FC Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt. Then the national team will go on an international trip again.
Premier class: The second day of the Champions League is on the program with four home games for the Bundesliga clubs. Under pressure on Tuesday (9 p.m.) is runner-up RB Leipzig after the 3: 6 opening defeat at Manchester City. At the same time, Borussia Dortmund can take a big step towards the round of 16 with another win against Sporting Lisbon. This also applies to champions FC Bayern Munich, who will intervene against Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday (9 p.m.). VfL Wolfsburg is up against the Spanish club FC Sevilla. In the other group games, the focus is on the summit meeting of the top clubs, which are funded with many oil millions, between Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City in the Leipzig group, as well as the guest appearance of defending champion Chelsea FC with coach Thomas Tuchel at the Italian record champions Juventus Turin.
Small stage: Will it finally work out in the ninth attempt for Eintracht Frankfurt’s first victory under the new coach Oliver Glasner? The Hessians, still unsuccessful under the Austrian coach in all competitive games of the season, will compete in the Europa League at Royal Antwerp on Thursday (6.45 p.m.). Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen can look forward to an atmospheric away game at the traditional Scottish club Celtic Glasgow (9 p.m.). Union Berlin is one class lower in the Conference League after the opening defeat against Maccabi Haifa (9 p.m.).
Nomination: Hansi Flick is in the middle of his soccer marathon. He has recently seen several Bundesliga and Premier League games. Now follow BVB against Sporting Lisbon and Bayern against Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League. Then on Friday the national coach will name his squad for the next two World Cup qualifiers for the national soccer team against Romania (October 8) and North Macedonia (October 11). Bigger surprises are hardly to be expected. It is exciting to see whether Flick will nominate Mats Hummels this time. With two wins – if Armenia is weak – the World Cup ticket can be booked.
Bundesliga: Champions FC Bayern Munich want to maintain their top position in the Bundesliga with a home win against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday (5.30 p.m.) before the international break. But caution is advised, the Hessians could annoy the Munich again and again in the past. Follower Bayer Leverkusen will be visiting Arminia Bielefeld (7.30 p.m.). Already on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) rival Borussia Dortmund will face FC Augsburg. The duel between VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach also promises excitement. Hertha BSC hopes against SC Freiburg to make amends for the 0: 6 bankruptcy at RB Leipzig.
Summit meeting: Jürgen Klopp versus Pep Guardiola, Liverpool FC versus Manchester City – the two dominant clubs of recent years will meet on the seventh matchday of the Premier League on Sunday (5.30 p.m.). Front runner Liverpool are one point ahead of the prestige duel. The clash in Spain between champions Atlético Madrid and ex-champion FC Barcelona on Saturday (9 p.m.) also promises excitement, especially since world champion Antoine Griezmann will meet his former Catalan club again.
