Berlin (dpa) – For fans of the lottery wheel, the upcoming football week has several mandatory dates in store. The next round in the European Cup will be determined as well as the composition of the upcoming Nations League. The German teams are threatened with big chunks.

Only FC Bayern made it from the four Bundesliga clubs to the knockout phase of the Champions League. On Monday (12.00 p.m.) the people of Munich will find out whether a top opponent of the caliber of FC Chelsea or Paris St. Germain is waiting in the round of 16 or whether it is against an outsider like Sporting Lisbon or FC Salzburg. The intermediate round of the Europa League will also be drawn afterwards (1:00 p.m.). In the playoffs, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig could now meet opponents such as Lazio Rome, SSC Napoli or Glasgow Rangers after their end in the premier class.

On the last few meters of the Bundesliga year, the clubs rush through an English week. On Tuesday (6.30 p.m. / Sky), FC Bayern can finally make the autumn championship clear at VfB Stuttgart. For coach Adi Hütter there is an explosive reunion with his ex-club Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday (6.30 p.m. / Sky) with the ailing Gladbachers. The general meeting of the 36 professional clubs on Tuesday in Frankfurt am Main will be Christian Seifert’s last appearance as DFL boss. The 52-year-old has been in charge of the umbrella organization since July 1, 2005 and played a key role in the development of the Bundesliga into the sixth largest sports league in the world. On January 1st, Donata Hopfen will take over the office. Chairman of the Supervisory Board Peter Peters is also saying goodbye to the DFL. The 59-year-old, whose successor Borussia Dortmund’s managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke is to be elected, is running for the office of DFB President in March 2022.

For the women of VfL Wolfsburg, the last group game in the Champions League on Thursday (9 p.m.) against championship leaders FC Chelsea will be a final. The team around goalkeeper Almuth Schult is second in Group A on points tied with Juventus Turin, who have the easier task against outsider Servette FC Chênois. The German champions FC Bayern Munich are already in the quarter-finals before the preliminary round against Benfica Lisbon on Wednesday (6.45 p.m.). Newcomer TSG 1899 Hoffenheim also needs a big surprise on Wednesday (9 p.m.) to make it even further. Against Arsenal, runners-up in Group C, coach Gabor Gallai’s team had to win 5-0. In the event of a tie, the goal difference from the direct encounters counts – and TSG lost the first leg in London 0: 4. The two best teams in each group advance to the quarter-finals. The games will be broadcast on DAZN and Youtube.
National League
The fans haven’t really grown fond of the Nations League yet. In the 2022 World Cup, however, she will provide national coach Hansi Flick with top-level tests.
