The traditional Thanksgiving Day Parade returns to the streets of New York this year with COVD-19 protocols, including a vaccination requirement for volunteers, city officials and officials said Wednesday. Macy’s, who sponsors the event.
The Nov. 25 parade will be broadcast on NBC and will feature the usual giant balloons, celebrities, clowns and marching bands, Macy’s said.
“We are thrilled that the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade is back in top form, a world-famous celebration that launches the magic of being in New York during the holiday season,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement.
Macy’s hosted a scaled-down version of the show last year, with shows and performers confined to an area near the chain’s flagship store in Manhattan.
The bands that were originally going to participate in the 2020 parade will do so this year, Macy’s said.
Parade staff members and volunteers will have to show proof of vaccination against the coronavirus, the network said. The use of masks will be required, with exceptions for singers and other artists.
Details on where to see the parade will be released later.
