Thanks to the vocal goddess Tereza Mašková, the world was rosier for a while in Lucerna

Not even a year after the first “Pink Lantern”, Tereza Mašková returned to the hall with a rich history, this time for two evenings. She celebrated success not only thanks to the power of her voice and melodious songs, but also thanks to her tenderness, humility and humanity – qualities with which she shone through Lucerna. And it is already going to bigger spaces.

First of all, let’s appreciate that after the great response to last year’s performance, Tereza Mašková has decided to remain loyal to Lucerna for this year as well. It would be possible to try to occupy, for example, today’s more frequented and more modern Forum Karlín, but the strengths of a singer of her type stand out more in a place with a unique genius loci, where the history of domestic popular music was written.

At a time when rap riddled with Anglicisms and vulgarisms has long since become the music of young people, the native of Třinec brings to pop the essence of purity and singable, pleasant melodies. And that’s a good thing, because both of them are currently mostly missing – and at the same time, listeners still crave this type of music. The audience in the packed hall was treated to a similar program as last year. After all, it couldn’t be put together too differently, because in the eleven months since the last visit, the main star has released only one new item. However, minor changes in the repertoire did occur, mainly thanks to other guests – but more on them later. The visual side of the event didn’t disappoint either: it didn’t need any megalomania, yet the colorful lights and bright costumes were very nice to look at, and the performer accompanied by the band and vocalists was also complemented by dancers. The seated audience did not miss falling confetti or flying pink balloons either. From the beginning, the shrill sound showed itself as a weakness, which made it very difficult to understand the words of the opening track “Zár”. Similar to last year, in the first episodes, Mašková got to know the audience rather slowly and waited for an imaginary turning point until the remake of “Jedno dne se povráš” by Věra Špinarová. Her flawless singing performance and the emotion with which she captured this classic hit earned her a standing ovation.

She talked a lot: she thanked, was moved, did not spare compliments to the fans present. She herself later admitted that maybe she should speak less (or not at all), but she can’t help herself – and she’s not afraid to be different. It was with her honest speech that she swayed the audience even more to her side. It didn’t matter that she occasionally slipped into phrases that a large part of society considers pathetic, because they sounded believable and uncalculated from her mouth. And sometimes she also confided in deeper, inner thoughts. “Why do people only become saints to us when they leave?” she asked before introducing the song “Láská se splěst”, which she recorded with her close friend Aleš Kubát, who died in 2018. It was one of the strongest moments of the performance. The virtual duet with a colleague singing from the screen captured hearts with its folk fragility and a genuine message about believing in our dreams. An unadulterated caress for the soul. Quite possibly, it is one of those fateful songs that will accompany Mašková for the rest of her career.“;$(this).parent().parent().html(tmpo);return false;”>

Before “Szácháš” she remembered her father for a change and admitted that they hadn’t talked about his death at home for a long time and that she was afraid to cry. “Sometimes it’s really good to cry,” she said, having no idea at the time that she herself would be overcome with emotion at the end of the song.

The beautifully arched ballad “Budu při tobá stát”, Cinderella’s “Three Nuts” borrowed from Iveta Bartošová or the dramatically built composition “There behind the river” from the fairy tale “The Princess Cursed in Time” were complemented by pieces in which the main actress demonstrated her more energetic position. The funk rhythm was helped by Ondřej Brzobohatý, who sang with her “Žijeme jeno odno” and “We love jazz”. Of course, there was also a remake of “Uptown Funk” (with the help of Darija Pavlovičová) and samples from the musical “The Bodyguard” – from Whitney Houston’s repertoire she reached for the Czech version of “How Will I Know” and also for the single “Queen Of The Night”. Marek Ztracený took care of the surprise when he came to support his colleague in the duet “More than quarrels”. Before that, Tereza thanked him for being able to learn from him how to work on the music scene. And he, in turn, appreciated her amazing performance and the atmosphere of belonging among the onlookers.

The warm, pleasant feeling-inducing experience was not spoiled even by the absence of Mark Lambora in the mega-hit “Our Story” at the end. The audience then received the encores “Eat, sleep, meditate, love” and completely spontaneously, after several minutes of persuasion, during which some of the visitors had already left, “Look at me”. And it also received information about the next concert destination of its perfectly singing favorite. O2 universum can look forward to the pink army, as the singer called her supporters, in 2026.
