The wealth of Britain’s richest people has risen by more than a fifth over the past year, despite the turmoil caused by the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Sunday Times.
The newspaper’s list of the rich shows that Britain’s billionaires have a total wealth of £ 597.2 billion (€ 695.4 billion), up 21.7% on last year.
Meanwhile, the number of billionaires has increased by 24% and reached 171.
The newspaper explains that the pandemic has created lucrative opportunities for several online retailers, social networking apps and video game makers.
Leonard Blavatnik, a Ukrainian-born businessman, has topped the list of British billionaires according to the Sunday Times, whose wealth has grown by 7.2 billion pounds and reached 23 billion pounds. His holding “Access Industries” operates in the petroleum and petrochemical, financial, entertainment, real estate and other fields.
In second place with a wealth of 21.4 billion pounds are David and Simon Rubin, who have invested in various industries.
In third place are the Indian-born brothers Sri and Gopi Hinduji, who run the conglomerate Hinduja Group, with a wealth of £ 17 billion.
