The American Tyson Steele (30) survived alone in snow and cold for 20 days. Like the news channel “NBC” reported, he lived with his Labrador Phil († 6) in a small hut in a remote and snowy area in Alaska.
–
It happened there in December: His hut caught fire. A spark had reached the roof through the chimney of his wood stove. Shortly afterwards his hut burned to the brim. Steele grabbed some blankets, coats, and cans. Then he fled outside.
–
«It didn’t stop burning»
His dog could not leave the burning house in time and died in the flames. When Steele noticed that his loyal companion Phil was stuck in the hut and found no way out, he had become hysterical. “I was just screaming,” he says.
–
He tried to put out the flames. «I kept throwing snow on the fire. But it didn’t stop burning, »said Steele. He couldn’t get help either, because his phone stopped working and the next neighbor lived about 20 kilometers away.
–
Then his struggle for survival began. First he built a snow cave and slept in it for the first two nights. As soon as the flames were completely out, he built a tent-like structure on the remains of his hut with tarpaulin and timber.
–
He planned his meal, only ate two cans a day. He could have survived for thirty days with his canned food. Hoping that someone would find him, the idea came to him: he formed the letters SOS in the snow.

SOS letters saved his life
A friend of his reported to the police last Thursday. This informed the emergency services that he hadn’t heard from Steele in weeks and was worried about him. As a result, the Alaska State Troopers police moved out and scanned the area with a helicopter.
–
From above they discovered the huge SOS letters in the snow. Steele stood beside it, waving her arms. Finally, he was rescued by the emergency services and brought to safety.

For the time being, the 30-year-old now wants to go to his family in Salt Lake City (Utah) and recover from the terrible experience. (CRC)
