As the boycott of Japan, which started with Japanese export regulations, overlapped with the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), Japanese fashion brand Uniqlo withdrew 10 additional stores in Korea this month.
According to the official website on the 12th, UNIQLO will operate in 8 locations including Homeplus Banghak, Mokdong, Gangseo, Seongseo, Asiad, Chilgok, Haeundae, and Donggwangju on the 18th, and Lotte Department Store Merchant on the 19th and Lotte Department Store on the 25th. Close each Gwangju branch.
As a result, Uniqlo withdraws from Homeplus stores nationwide, reducing the number of offline stores to 143. As of the end of 2019, the number of Uniqlo stores reached 187. At the end of January, the Myeongdong Store, which attracted attention as the world’s second largest Uniqlo flagship store when opened in 2011, was closed.
UNIQLO said, “It is part of a business strategy to operate stores more efficiently in consideration of complex factors such as changes in consumption trends as well as the influence of external factors such as the prolonged Corona 19.”
