Thank you very much, “elPeriódico”

For 27 years, the newspaper it positioned itself as a source of journalistic information, committed to research and opinion. He stood out for the tenacity of his investigations into criminal networks, particularly those of drug trafficking and corruption.

It is a pity to lose a means of communication in a country. And it is sad to see that the luck of the medium is predicated on the luck of its founder. Surely mistakes have been made along the way, but the journalistic institution must prevail.

I thank José Rubén for the almost 10 years that this space has given me. The best thing I can wish you in the current situation is impartial and independent justice, without pressure or bias from any source.

I am happy because I had the privilege of writing an opinion column in one of the most respected media in the history of Guatemala. I had the honor of sharing these pages with very prominent journalists and thinkers from our country. People who, like me, sought to generate criteria in the regular readers of this great medium. And it is that, from the beginning, the newspaper it differed from the other Guatemalan media by its excellent load of opinion.

I deeply appreciate this opportunity you gave me, know that I hold it very close to my heart. Congratulations on nearly three decades of full-fledged journalism. I am sure that his legacy will be valued and remembered. We hope that Guatemalan society continues to demand respect for press freedom and that other media make an effort to maintain the high journalistic standards that characterized the newspaper.

I say goodbye to these pages with great regret. But, as they always say, when one door closes, another opens. I am sure that for the journalists, columnists and other respectable team that dedicated their effort and time to this great medium, good things will come. For my part, I will continue to share my weekly column with you through my networks and my blog. See you there.
