“Thank you, Messi.” This is how Argentine newspapers reacted after winning the World Cup News on the World Cup

Argentina enjoyed a long day of celebration after regaining the FIFA World Cup title they lost 36 years ago, and more than a million people gathered around the Oblisco Monument in the heart of the capital, Buenos Aires, in awaiting the return of the samples from Qatar.

Argentina clinched their third world title, their first since 1986, with a 4-2 penalty shootout win over France in the final at Lusail Stadium on Sunday after a thrilling 3-3 draw in 120 minutes.

The Argentine newspapers did not exaggerate their headlines after the nerve-wracking match, as France returned the result twice, and fatigue seemed to strike them too, as players and fans, so they did not look for exciting headlines and contented themselves with highlighting the phrase “Argentina is the champion of the world” with images of Lionel Messi kissing or Holding the cup.

The Clarin newspaper quoted in its headlines: “The joy of a country. Argentina is world champion. Thank you, Messi”, while the newspaper (Olé) wrote on the cover, “We are the champions of the world”, and the website (TYC) used the same title.

“Argentina wins the best final in history and goes to heaven,” said the newspaper (Lanación).

Messi was the hero of the festivities after scoring two goals in the final and a penalty, and won the player of the tournament award after finally realizing his dream and making up for his 2014 final defeat to Germany.

But Diego Maradona was also absent from the festivities, as fans held up photos of him next to Messi, and local newspapers recalled the legend who died two years ago.

And (Clarin) published two similar images of Messi and Maradona lifting the World Cup, worn on their necks, and commented: “The expected image 36 years ago.”

And (LaNacion) added: “Maradona is always present with us, he celebrates from the sky in Lusail”.

Several former players agreed that the 2022 World Cup final match in Qatar was one of the best matches of all time.

Argentinian star Lionel Messi scored twice, while Frenchman Kylian Mbappe gave his side three goals during the thrilling 120-minute confrontation, before Gonzalo Montiel scored the decisive penalty kick as his side won the title for the third time.
