Manchester United relatively alert to secure Donny van de Beek. Darren Fletcher feel, with Van de Beek’s age and price, MU should not have thought for long.
MU took him Donny van de Beek from Ajax worth 40 million pounds this summer. The 23-year-old player has a five-year contract.
Van de Beek’s recruitment process was relatively straightforward. Indeed, there have been rumors about MU’s interest in the Ajax academy graduate since January, but nothing was strong until the end of August.
Van de Beek was even believed to be closer to Real Madrid. Now, when the news of the Dutch national team player being one step away from joining MU spread, the confirmation came out only two days later.
Former MU midfielder Darren Fletcher believes this signing was appropriate. With its quality and age, 40 million pounds is not a big price.
“He is a top player and I think he is a fantastic signing. For someone his age, at that price, it feels like a step not to think about,” said Fletcher. MUTV quoted Metro.
“I saw him in Ajax’s progress to the semifinals of the Champions League last season (2018/2019), he was probably one of the catalysts on that journey. What I like about him is his flexibility in midfield.”
“He knows when to be a No.10 and what he has to do, and he understands when to be a box-to-box midfielder. He has the character of Ajax in him and is a cultured footballer,” he continued.
“I think he is a great addition to the team and also looks like a good lad, considering how he has been treated since leaving Ajax and how everyone talks about him.”
“There is nothing better than having players in the team who are top players and also good people. That would certainly be very beneficial,” he added.
