Thanasis Glavinas: “The wiretapping scandal, in any other European country, would have created tectonic changes” – 2024-08-03 06:36:19

The press representative of PASOK-Movement for Change, Thanasis Glavinas, speaking today to ERT and commenting on the statements of the government representative, Pavlos Marinakis, in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision on the wiretapping issue, pointed out that “Mr. Marinakis is trying to hide behind the responsibilities of the New Democracy. Fifty years after the Postcolonization, we have violation of human rights, anti-democratic methods. We have a huge scandal, which in any other country in Europe would have created tectonic changes in the political system, everyone would have apologized. In Greece, on the contrary, Mr. Mitsotakis and his government act as if nothing is happening.”

“When Mr. Floridis, a few years ago, for similar cases of SYRIZA, which has also soiled its nest against the independence of the institutions, succeeded against justice, there was no reaction from the New Democracy because it contributed to it. Belief in justice is not a la carte and respect for its independence is guaranteed,” he added.

The press representative of PASOK-Movement for Change, reminded that the Constitution provides that powers come from the people, therefore “the Parliament, where the people are represented, has every right, as provided in its regulations, to call in this matter the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court to give explanations regarding her announcement on the filing of the wiretapping case. It is not an insult to the distinction of functions that the Parliament is entitled to exercise its legal rights”.

He made it clear that the court decision is not disputed, however, at the same time speaking of a “corruption scandal and a corruption scandal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”, explaining then:

“The then Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, now Director General of New Democracy, Mr. Smyrlis, signed off on the export of the Predator through the company Intelexa to third countries. How was this allowed? Who won? Was the cash flow followed? Have bank accounts been opened? There are huge questions about the judicial inquiry that need to be answered.”

“New Democracy should apologize. Mr. Androulakis has the right to be informed of the reasons for his surveillance, as stipulated by the decision of the Council of State. What are the Government and Mr. Mitsotakis doing? They hide behind their responsibilities. Do we have an answer? Hush fish,” he added.
