Thanasis Glavinas: “Debate before the first and second round of internal party elections” – 2024-09-08 05:13:33

The press representative of PaSoK, Thanasis Glavinas, spoke about holding two debates, one in the first round and one in the second.

Speaking to OREN, Mr. Glavinas, when asked about the party’s internal party leadership elections, stated that “the internal process of PASoK must breathe a spirit of political culture and unity. It will happen debateis something that our president, Nikos Androulakis, has mentioned many times. Both before the first round and before the second round of internal party elections”.

“We do not get involved in the internal processes of another party”

The PASOK press representative was asked about the situation in SYRIZA and categorically stated that “we do not get involved in the internal processes of another party as a matter of principle, but obviously we are interested in the world of SYRIZA and we want to express the anxieties of these people.

PaSoK lost voters to the center in previous years and to the center-left. We want reforms and substantial changes that will lead to a strong welfare state and a strong society.”

He also pointedly commented on the government’s policy, saying that “in five and a half years of government, she has now remembered the social policy, or is it the “fault” of the opinion polls that show her at half of her electoral strength.”

“..didn’t he do something for all these five and a half years that he is at the helm of the country and comes today to recommend social policy measures? The delay in resolving these issues raises questions as to why they were not taken e.g. measures for rents but also why the National Health System had to reach this point” added Mr. Glavinas.

“The amount of rent is unimaginably high”

“A little while ago we heard the representative of New Democracy accusing PaSoK of hunting witches and that we are out of touch with reality. I, of course, remember the president of our party, Nikos Androulakis, in a question to the prime minister to mention in a timely manner the major issue of housing, proposing e.g. the abolition of the golden visa program”, emphasized Mr. Glavinas, referring to the stance of the PASOK on social policy issues.

“If you look at the recent past, you will see that the first trip of Nikos Androulakis after his election was to Portugal to see how the issue of the housing crisis was dealt with there,” he recalled.

“So we raised the issue very early. Unfortunately, we have now reached the point where teachers in Rhodes are sleeping in cars because there, as a tourist place, the rents are very expensive and the lease lasts from October to May as in the summer months it is used as a tourist accommodation. But also students in places like Crete, Rhodes and other tourist and non-tourist destinations go through exactly the same.

The amount of rent is unimaginably high. Is it possible for the government to turn a blind eye and force young children to choose the subject of their studies based on geographic criteria and what their family can afford?”

“The game is lost”

Asked to comment on the government’s agenda and its actions a year after the bad weather Daniel, the PASoK press representative noted:

“I remind you that a whole year has passed since Daniel and one wonders about the report and whether the residents are satisfied and feel protected today. Anyone who attempts to do on-site research will understand that the government has lagged far behind in terms of rehabilitation and civil protection.

Therefore, no matter how much the prime minister invokes at the International Exhibition of Thessaloniki, how many bonuses and allowances he arranges, the game is lost. The citizens have already understood that this government is not interested in the issues of everyday life but has other goals and serves other interests”.
