Kannur – Thalassery-Mahi bypass inaugurated today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will present the bypass to the nation through video conference. Live streaming will be held till 2 pm. Chonath has provided facilities to watch live streaming at a special venue. Chonath has prepared a venue that can seat a thousand people.

Speaker A.N.Shamsir and Maramat Minister P.A.Muhammad Riaz will participate in the inaugural session from the venue at Chonadu. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and others will attend the inauguration ceremony from Thiruvananthapuram. After the live streaming of the conference, the Speaker, the Minister of Maramath and the dignitaries who will be attending the venue at Chonadu will travel to Muzhapilangad in a KSRTC double decker bus. As part of the trial run, free vehicular travel was allowed on the bypass yesterday as well.
Toll collection will be done through FASTag system. If you don’t have FASTag, you have to pay double the toll rate. Officials of AV Enterprises, the contract company, said that the facility of taking FASTag will be made available at the toll plaza. There will also be facility of FASTag recharge.

The path has become a reality after more than five decades of waiting. The work officially started in November 2018 after the land acquisition process started in 1977 for the National Highway Bypass. The bypass is 18.6 km long from Muzhapilangad in Kannur district to Azhiyoor in Kozhikode district. The bypass passes through Dharmadam, Thalassery, Thiruvananthapuram, Eranjoli, Kodiyeri, Mahi and Chokli. With the Thalassery-Mahi bypass, which is a part of National Highway 66, fully ready for travel, it now takes a maximum of 20 minutes to cover the 18.6 km distance from Muzhapilangad matham junction to Azhiyur. With the opening of the bypass, the traffic congestion in Thalassery and Mahi towns will be eased. The construction of 18.6 km Thalassery-Mahi bypass has been completed at a cost of 1543 crore rupees.
Small private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, vans etc. will be charged Rs 65 to cross the bypass. 100 will be enough if traveling both ways on the same day. A monthly rate of Rs 2195 for 50 trips has also been introduced. Taxis registered in the district charge Rs 35 per trip. For mini buses and small commercial vehicles, the fare is Rs 105 for a one-way journey and Rs 160 for a return journey on the same day.

Buses and lorries (2 axles) charge Rs 225 for one way and Rs 335 for both ways on the same day. A monthly pass is also available for Rs 8105. 245 rupees for 3 axle vehicles and 355 rupees for both sides and 350 rupees for one side and 5425 rupees for both sides for vehicles with 4 to 6 axles. For vehicles with more than 7 axles, the fare is Rs 425 one way and Rs 640 both ways. A monthly pass will be issued at a cost of Rs 330 for private vehicles of residents within 20 km radius of the toll plaza.
