The Thais celebrate the beginning of the rice growing season every year with a traditional buffalo race, an animal that has endured the hardships of working with the farmers for many years, even if today it is no longer used much in agriculture.
The race, attended by dozens of spectators, takes place on a 200m mud track in the coastal province of Chonburi, 80km southeast of the capital Bangkok.
Buffalo racing is an annual tradition that dates back to the 19th century and stopped during the Corona pandemic, but it came back last year and Thais are eager to raise this type of cattle.
