(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) Thailand’s single-day confirmed cases fell to double digits and spread to 62 provinces
China News Agency, Bangkok, January 20 (Reporter Wang Guoan) Thailand’s New Coronary Pneumonia Epidemic Management Center announced on the 20th that 59 new cases of new coronary pneumonia have been confirmed. This is the first time the number of confirmed cases in a single day in Thailand has fallen below 100 since the beginning of this year, and it is also the day with the fewest new cases.
An assistant spokesperson for the center said that one new death was added that day. So far, Thailand has a total of 12,653 confirmed cases, of which 9621 were cured, 71 died, and 2961 cases are still in hospital.
Thailand started a new round of epidemic in the middle of last month, and the epidemic has now spread to 62 provinces across the country. Among them, 37 provinces had no new cases in the last 7 days.
The new round of epidemic has a huge impact on Thailand’s economy and people’s income. According to local research institutions, the loss of Thailand’s domestic tourism industry alone will exceed 150 billion baht (approximately 32.3 billion yuan) and the loss of about 22 million tourists.
Thai Prime Minister Prayut said on the same day that strict epidemic prevention and control measures will continue to be implemented at least until the end of this month. In the next few days, the government will evaluate the epidemic situation in order to determine whether to continue or relax the corresponding prevention and control measures.
In order to alleviate the living difficulties caused by the epidemic to low-income groups, the Thai government approved a subsidy program totaling 210 billion baht (approximately 45.3 billion yuan) on the 19th, which will provide 7000 per person for 2 months to eligible people. A subsidy of Thai baht (about 1512 yuan) is used to purchase basic daily necessities. The Thai government estimates that the subsidy program will cover approximately 31 million low-income groups in Thailand, accounting for nearly half of the country’s population.
