Illustrative photo (Source: Bangkok Post) Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health is preparing to offer 200,000 additional doses of flu vaccine to workers in the public transportation and tourism industry in 31 provinces of the country .
The vaccination program aims to reduce the spread of the virus and support the tourism sector, as influenza infections were reported throughout 2023, according to Dr. Thongchai Keeratihuttayakorn, director general of the Department of Disease Control (DCE). quoted by local newspaper Bangkok Post.
According to DCE statistics, a total of 472,222 flu infections and 29 deaths were recorded last year, with influenza A virus being the dominant strain.
Rayong, Phayao, Phuket, Bangkok and Chiang Mai recorded the highest number of infections, and the largest group of patients were between five and nine years old. Infections were mainly recorded in large cities with dense populations.
Previously, the DCE said that influenza, dengue and COVID-19 were the most widespread infectious diseases in Thailand in 2023./.
