Thailand refuses passengers on cruise ship the Westerdam | Abroad

“I gave this order. Permission to disembark has been denied ”, the Minister of Health Anutin Charnvirakul said in a message on Facebook. There would be more than ninety Dutch people on board the Westerdam.

Three passengers on board were suspected of being infected with the new corona virus, but all tested negative. The ship has 1455 passengers and 802 crew members on board. The company behind the cruise ship had announced on Monday that passengers would be allowed to disembark in Bangkok on February 13 and that there was no reason to believe that someone on board had the virus.

Shipping company: no cases of illness

The cruise ship sailing under the Dutch flag was en route from the south coast of Vietnam to Thailand. “The ship is not in quarantine and we have no reason to believe that there are cases of coronavirus on board, despite the media reports,” the shipping company said.
