Bangkok, Feb 22 (EFE) .- The Thai authorities raised the alert level against covid-19 due to the recent increase in infections, which this Tuesday was around 18,400 cases and 35 deaths, although they rule out implementing new confinements.

The decision, adopted after a meeting of advisors against the pandemic the day before at the Ministry of Health, applies to the entire nation, although some provinces were already at alert level 4 (out of a maximum of 5).

The authorities will meet on Wednesday to study possible measures with the aim of combating the increase in cases, including reducing the capacity in large public gatherings, recommending work from home or a ban on the sale of alcohol in restaurants.

Although, for now, they reject the idea of confining the population since they consider that the health system is prepared for a hypothetical increase in hospitalizations, an official spokeswoman told the Bangkok Post newspaper.

Thailand resumed the program at the beginning of the month to allow the arrival of people from abroad and vaccinated with the full regimen against covid-19 with one night of isolation.

Since January 1, when it confirmed some 3,000 infections, the country has recorded a growing number of cases and has accumulated 2.75 million people infected with covid-10 since the start of the pandemic, including 22,691 deaths. EFE
