Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Thailand’s efforts to attract more foreign tourist visits entered a new phase after the country lowered taxes on alcoholic drinks in favor of night trips popular among travelers. This time, they proposed a joint visa for not only the White Elephant Country, but also four neighboring countries in Southeast Asia: Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia.
Launch The NationalWednesday (7/2/2024), Secretary General of the Prime Minister (PM) of Thailand, Prommin Lertsuridej, said that his party would seek support from neighboring countries to create a scheme that would allow tourists to travel freely between the five ASEAN countries after obtaining a visa enter from one of the regions.
He said Vietnam had specifically asked for Thailand’s help to support its tourism sector. “Plus, we are close to Cambodia and Laos, and they certainly won’t be against the idea,” Prommin said optimistically.
“Thailand will lead negotiations for tourists who need entry visas for holidays between us (countries in the scheme),” he added.
Prommin said that if the four neighboring countries officially agreed, the Thai government would take advantage of this agreement in talks with the European Union (EU) to seek exceptions to Schengen visa applications for its citizens.
Prommin highlighted the success of Thailand’s policy of waiving entry visas for foreign tourists (tourists), thereby contributing to an increase in foreign tourist arrivals. Last year, despite an estimated 25 million foreign tourists, the country actually received 28 million tourists, he added.
