Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Thailand held Saudi Arabia to a goalless draw in the final match of Group F of the 2023 Asian Cup at Education City Stadium, Al Rayyan, Thursday (25/1) evening WIB.
Saudi Arabia started the match well. Roberto Mancini’s team even received a penalty from the referee after only eight minutes of the match.
A penalty was awarded after Abdulrahman Ghareeb was fouled by Suphan Thongsong in the penalty box following Video Assistant Referee (VAR) observation. However, Abdullah Radif’s penalty kick was saved by Thai goalkeeper Saranon Anuin, making the score 0-0.
Saudi Arabia got another chance in the 19th minute. This time team captain Salem Al Dawsari fired a shot from outside the penalty box which Saranon was able to secure.
Saudi Arabia continues to be dominant while Thailand focuses on defending to ensure that their goal is not conceded. The 0-0 score did not change until the second half ended.
Saudi Arabia was able to score a goal against Thailand in the 57th minute. However, the goal scored by Abdulrahman Ghareeb was disallowed by the referee because he was deemed to have been in an offside position before the goal occurred.
Thailand responded with a chance that Jaroensak Wonggorn got just two minutes later. Jaroensak fired a left footed shot from an open position but his shot still did not meet the target.
Saudi Arabia is still curious about being able to break into Thailand’s goal. Saudi Arabia got a number of opportunities through Radif and Al Dawsari but they were unable to break into Thailand’s goal.
In the 81st minute it was Ghareeb’s turn to get another chance. This time his shot from inside the penalty box was blocked by a Thai defender.
Al Dawsari and his friends were never able to score a goal until the match was over. A goalless draw was the end of the Saudi Arabia vs Thailand match.
