Six to seven people have been in close contact with monkeypox sufferers in Thailand
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PHUKET — The authorities in Phuket are preparing a number of measures to deal with the disease monkey pox after Thailand found the first case of the disease.
About six to seven people had close contact with the infected man in Phuket, Thailand’s Department of Disease Control said, according to the state news agency TNA on Friday (22/7/2022). A private hospital in Phuket has notified the Department of Disease Control that a person is suspected of being infected with monkeypox.
Phuket public health department and office officials found a 27-year-old Nigerian man who was infected on July 18, 2022. The man came from Nigeria and said he had developed fever, cough, sore throat, rash and blisters in the past week.
The blisters start on the genitals and then spread to the face, body, and arms. PCR tests carried out by the Chulalongkorn University School of Medicine and the Department of Medical Sciences confirmed the man was infected with the monkeypox virus on July 19, 2022.
Phuket’s head of public health, Dr Koosak Kookiatkul, said residents should not panic because monkeypox is not easily transmitted. He added that the disease is similar to chickenpox which will only be transmitted through direct contact with patients who have blisters or through sneezing on people’s faces.
