Based on information from the Department of Disease Control at the Thai Ministry of Health, the patient who tested positive for Mpox clade Ib in Thailand was a European man who arrived in Bangkok last week from Africa.

“They will be monitored for any symptoms for 21 days and must go to hospital if they develop a fever, rash or swollen lymph nodes,” Thai authorities said.
The patient with monkeypox-related illnesses and symptoms had previously been hospitalized on August 15, a day after arriving in Bangkok.
He then carried out laboratory tests on Thursday confirming the variant as clade Ib and Thailand will report the results to WHO.
When this virus was discovered, Thailand was the first country in Asia to discover a new, mutated type of monkeypox virus.
Thailand, which relies on tourism, said it would tighten surveillance and screening at all international entry points, including Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Travelers from 42 countries suffering from monkey outbreaks must register themselves on the Ministry of Health’s online application before leaving for Thailand and undergo health checks on arrival in accordance with global protocols.
This new type of monkeypox was previously known to have spread in several African countries and was reported to have killed more than 500 people in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Children and adolescents are the most affected in the outbreak that is now spreading in Africa, with more than 60 percent of known fatal cases under the age of 5 years.
