THAILAND – COVID: Restaurants under surveillance due to Omicron virus

As the holiday season approaches, the Thai health department has advised all restaurants to strictly adhere to the following preventive measures:

– Clean tables immediately after customers leave and display a sign indicating that they have been cleaned.

– Disinfect all contact points and toilets every one to two hours.

– Keep utensils clean and provide a separate spoon for shared dishes.

– Make gloves available to customers in buffets or self-service counters.

– Place a bottle of alcoholic gel at each table or keep one handy. In food courts, each stand must have a bottle of alcoholic gel available to customers.

– Maintain a distance of one to two meters between the tables. If there is no room, each table should be separated by a partition. In air-conditioned restaurants, the distance between tables should be two meters and customers should not be allowed to sit across from each other. Restaurants should not be crowded.

– Customers should not stay more than two hours.

– All restaurants must be well ventilated and must open all doors and windows at least half an hour before turning on the air conditioners. If possible, restaurants should ventilate the area hourly and keep fans on at all times.

The department’s general manager, Dr Suwanchai Wattanaying-charoencha, also said restaurants should screen customers before they enter and ensure they log in through the “Thai Save Thai” app.

Customers are required to wear their mask except when eating. Air-conditioned restaurants are required to serve only fully vaccinated individuals or those who may test negative for the ATK test performed within seven days.
