Thailand’s entertainment venues could be allowed to reopen faster following widespread protests from entrepreneurs.
National Security Council (NSC) Secretary General Supot Malaniyom said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha had expressed concern over entrepreneurs in the nightlife industry, including bars, clubs nightlife, karaoke lounges, etc. and artists.
However, the Covid-19 situation in Thailand remains of concern with regard to the easing measures for the places, added Supot.
Petition of the forgotten about the reopening
A petition from entrepreneurs submitted to government officials this week will be presented to the general assembly of the Center for the Administration of the Covid-19 Situation (CCSA), scheduled for the end of next week, around November 26.
Mr Supot has strongly hinted that this assembly could reverse the previously announced unpopular decision to keep nightlife, bars and entertainment venues closed until at least mid-January, costing business owners the busiest time of the year in this area.
“The petition and proposal from the group of owners of entertainment venues, breweries, etc. suggested reasonable conditions and rules to allow them to open earlier than next year, which also includes safety, l ‘location, personnel, preparation, service systems and conditions of service.
Thus, the discussion at the next general assembly could lead to a positive result, “said Mr. Supot.
When asked by the press if reopening measures were likely to be lifted by December 1 or before the New Year, the secretary general only replied that the government should first consider general issues, taking into account the number of infections and the general pandemic situation in the country.
At present, only a few areas of the country, like Phuket and Bangkok, can legally sell alcohol in restaurants, other popular tourist destinations like Pattaya have not been allowed, despite enormous pressure from owners and business operators for the ban to be lifted.
