Today I would like to talk about some matters related to livestock. Even if it doesn’t happen directly to pets. But it is a related matter. For meat consumers like us, that is “Foot and Mouth Disease” or “Foot and Mouth Disease” (FMD), which is a disease that spreads very easily among livestock.
Including cattle, pigs, goats, and sheep, etc.
FMD serotype SAT2 (not yet found in Thailand) is a strain that is often found in Africa. It was found that in the past year It has begun to spread to Middle Eastern countries such as Jordan, Turkey, Oman and Iraq, causing a “risk” of the spread of the disease. to enter China, South Asia and Southeast Asia including Thailand
The worrying thing is at present Thailand does not yet have an effective vaccine to prevent disease against the SAT2 serotype strain. Therefore, if it spreads May cause a widespread outbreak. and causing damage to the Thai livestock industry, including severe economic losses in the outbreak area.
For this reason Therefore, there is a need to increase disease surveillance and increase biosafety measures. Strictly control the movement of animals at the border to prevent the spread of disease into the country. and increase awareness To farmers, animal traders and related officials to help monitor and warn. When disease occurs Measures must be taken to quickly control, warn and prevent epidemics.
How to detect disease when animals are infected: Animals will show important symptoms including fever, mouth, feet, tongue, nose, hooves, and breasts will have clear blisters and become ulcerated. The animal is constantly drooling, has sore hooves, has a sore mouth and is not eating. Affects milk production and decreased growth. In young animals, a high mortality rate is found.
Therefore, when you find an animal suspected of being sick with foot-and-mouth disease, you must immediately notify officials of the Department of Livestock Development. to control disease and collect samples to quickly diagnose the disease And moving animals from the farm is strictly prohibited. To reduce the spread to other areas. and promptly disinfect the affected area with an appropriate disinfectant.
and to prevent and reduce the risk of bringing disease into the farm. Farmers must strictly implement biosecurity measures. Measures must be taken to prevent germs from entering the farm, such as strict purchases of new animals for the farm. Strict cars and vehicles Including outsiders entering and exiting the farm. If it is necessary to allow outsiders to enter the farm Must have strict preventive measures, such as spraying disinfectant. Wear only the clothing and boots provided by the farm, etc.
Surveillance and accurate diagnosis The rapid destruction of animals infected with the SAT2 serotype is important and necessary to effectively control the spread of the disease in its early stages. In addition, it is necessary for the government to prepare enough vaccines in case of emergency to control the disease in the event of an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, serotype SAT2, to ensure that Thailand has the necessary tools. sufficient to control and prevent disease
Preparing to deal with foot-and-mouth disease, serotype SAT2, requires cooperation from all sectors in reporting, warning, and surveillance, so disease prevention and control can be successful. This will support Thailand’s livestock and agricultural sectors to continue to have food security.
