Bangkok (VNA) – The Immigration Office of Thailand presented its online visa extension service (e-extension) on Tuesday.

According to National Police Chief Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittiprapas, the e-extension would improve visa services by allowing visitors to submit their applications online.

This service includes the payment of fees and expenses through a dedicated website, Thaiextension.vfsevisa.com. It will also reduce the request processing time from one hour to three minutes.

According to the office, more than 200,000 expats try to extend their visas every year for reasons that include vacations, teaching work, study or family matters. The growing number of applicants has raised concerns about the slow and inefficient process.

The service will be tested first for expats living or working in Bangkok, who can apply online on the official website. However, they still need to apply in person at the IB office on Chaeng Wattana Road, just like the old system.

The Department plans to provide this service in all of its offices nationwide in the future ./.
