Thailand wants international tourists to hand in proof of COVID-19 vaccination again from Monday. The measure will certainly apply until February. The measure appears to be a response to easing in China. That country will reopen its borders on Sunday.
It differs per corona vaccine how many doses are required to enter Thailand. The country is accepting trials of about 16 vaccines. You must have done at least two doses of the most used vaccines in Europe, Pfizer and Moderna. This also applies to AstraZeneca, while Thailand is also welcoming travelers who have received a Janssen vaccine.
Evidence of recovery must be able to show that someone has recovered from corona in the six months prior to arriving in Thailand. Unvaccinated people will only enter the country if they have a medical statement from a doctor stating why they have not been vaccinated.
Not all travelers need to deliver a vaccination certificate. Persons transiting through Thailand and residents of Thailand are exempt from the rule.
Thailand prepares for tourists after China reopens
Thailand removed the requirement for a vaccination certificate in October. With the reintroduction of the measure, the country is preparing for an increase in the number of tourists.
That’s because China reopened its borders on Sunday. At the same time, there is a huge corona wave in that country. Hospitals and crematoria have been overcrowded for over a month. The first commercial flight from China arrives on Monday, carrying about 286 tourists.
Thailand is also a popular tourist destination among the Dutch. However, tourism is an important economic pillar for the country. In 2019, nearly 40 million tourists accounted for tens of billions of euros in revenue. Thailand has been losing that income in recent years.
