(Bangkok = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Nam-kwon = The conflict between the European Union (EU) and the multinational pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca over the supply of a new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine is affecting the vaccination schedule in Thailand.

Health Minister Anutin Chan Wi-Rakun said on the 29th that the first vaccinations in Thailand will not begin on the 14th of next month, which was originally scheduled, online media Kaosot said.

For that reason, Minister Anutin heard a conflict over the vaccine supply between the EU and AstraZeneca.

Currently, the EU is facing a conflict between the two sides, saying that AstraZeneca is not supplying the originally promised vaccine volume and decided to take legal action against the company.

“We are trying to do everything we can,” said Anutin. “The delay in supply is not because of us. If there is a problem, it is out of our control.”

He added, “We will contact all vaccine producers and ask for the amount of vaccine they stockpiled before March.”

Minister Anutin said, “When the vaccine arrives in Thailand, it must go through the inspection process by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so the vaccine will not be available until March.”

In the first place, the Thai government decided to import 200,000 doses of the same vaccine from overseas in that the AstraZeneca vaccine produced in Korea can be supplied only in May or June through a technological partnership.

Accordingly, the policy was to start the first vaccination on the 14th when 50,000 doses arrive in Thailand in the first week of February. The remaining 150,000 batches were expected to be brought in in March and April respectively.

In this regard, the Thai FDA approved the emergency use of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced in Italy on the 22nd.

Thailand also decided to import 2 million doses of vaccine from China’s Sinobaeksa, starting with 200,000 doses next month, 800,000 doses (March) and 1 million doses (April), but the FDA has not yet approved emergency use. State.
