Thai racer Somkiat Chantra wins

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Thai racer who defended Idemitsu Honda Team Asia, Somkiat Chantra won the race Moto2 MandalikaSunday (20/3).

Chantra became the first driver to cross the finish line, followed by Celestino Vietti and Aron Canet on the second and third podiums.

Somkiat Chantra leads the race at the start of Moto2 Mandalika. He managed to create a difference of more than 0.5 seconds over Sam Lowes on the third lap. Behind Lowes are Jake Dixon and Aron Canet.

Chantra’s difference with Lowes was even more than one second when the race had 12 laps remaining. On the same lap, Jake Dixon made a mistake and slipped off the track.

Canet and Celestino Vietti were then able to overtake Lowes and chase Chantra in front when the Moto2 Mandalika race left 10 laps.

Chantra’s chances of winning the Moto2 Mandalika race look even bigger because the difference between him and Vietti is already over two seconds when the race has eight laps to go.

Vietti and Canet’s duel marked the end of the race, while Lowes had little competition as he was already two seconds behind Vietti and Canet and five seconds ahead of Augusto Fernandez who was fifth.

Chantra’s advantage was even more than three seconds when entering the last lap. Chantra can be comfortable through the last lap with a big difference.

Meanwhile, Pertamina Mandalika racer Bo Bendsneyder ended the race in 15th position while Gabriel Rodrigo in 22nd position.

The number of Moto2 race laps was reduced from 25 laps to 16 laps. This is because the asphalt condition of the Mandalika Circuit is too hot.
