“Thai Players and Officials Suspended After Brawl in the 2023 SEA Games Final Against Indonesia: CNN Indonesia”

The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has officially suspended two players and three staff members of the Thai national team who were involved in a fight in the final brawl SEA Games 2023 against Indonesia, last May 16.

FAT officially punished two players Teerapak Prueangna and Soponwit Rakyart with suspension at the national team level for six months. This means that for the next six months the two players will not be able to strengthen the Thai national team in various events.

In addition, FAT also officially punished three coaching staff, namely Prasadchok Chokmoh, Mayed Madada, Patrawut Wongsripuek in the form of a one-year ban on all levels of Thai football.

The 2023 SEA Games final Indonesia vs Thailand became the spotlight in world football after an incident of commotion between players and officials occurred in the heated match.

The manager of the Indonesian national team, Sumardji, was the victim of a beating by a Thai official, although in the end the Thai official apologized while crying.

Regarding the commotion in the final of the 2023 SEA Games Indonesia vs Thailand, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has also spoken up.

“Southeast Asian football has the potential to develop well and broadly, but in the end it is plagued by problems of violence, matters related to football, and other social problems,” said Infantino.

Infantino admitted that he regretted the incident between the players that occurred in the 2023 SEA Games final between Indonesia vs Thailand which was held at the Olympic National Stadium, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on May 16.

“The incident on the evening of May 16 at the Olympic Stadium [Phnom Penh] it is deeply regretted. If it was a commotion between players, the team’s assistant and coach should have stepped in to stop it. The images in the SEA Games final spread a very negative message and image in football,” said Infantino.

Infantino hopes that after the incident in the 2023 SEA Games final, the AFC, AFF, PSSI and FAT can find the best solution to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the future.

“I hope that the series of incidents in SEA Games football, the management of the AFC, AFF and even the national football federation can look back and find effective methods to prevent such things from happening in the future,” said Infantino.

Indonesia won a gold medal after defeating Thailand 5-2 in extra round in the 2023 SEA Games final.
