“Thai defender Jonathan Khemdee explains reason for throwing SEA Games 2023 medals and dolls after defeat by Indonesia”

Thai national team defender Jonathan Khemdee uncovers the reasons for throwing medals and dolls SEA Games 2023 after being defeated Indonesian U-22 National Team in the final of the football branch in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Tuesday (16/5).

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Khemdee is seen refusing to receive a silver medal after being defeated by Indonesia. The 21-year-old defender then arrogantly took the 2023 SEA Games dummy himself before being given away.

Khemdee then threw medals and 2023 SEA Games medals at the Thai national team supporters who were at the Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium.

This arrogant attitude made Khemdee criticized by Cambodian netizens. The player with Danish-Thai blood is considered to be disrespectful to Cambodia, especially in the 2023 SEA Games medal with an Angkot War image.

Through his Instagram account, Khemdee then explained his reasons for throwing medals and 2023 SEA Games dolls at Thai fans.

“I gave the fans a silver medal and a doll because I want to thank the fans who came and supported directly because this will be my last SEA Games,” said Khemdee.

“I have no intention of disrespecting this competition and the medals I have won. Lastly, I would like to thank everyone who supported me,” said Khemdee.

Khemdee is one of the Thai national team players who received a red card when they were defeated by the U-22 Indonesian National Team in the 2023 SEA Games final. The Ratchaburi player received a second yellow card for kicking Ilham Rio Fahmi in the face.

Khemdee himself ensured that the 2023 SEA Games would be his last match with the Thai national team. Khemdee wants to focus on achieving a stable playing position at club level in the next few years.
