Thai security officials ordered an inspection of 52 more warehouses in the south of the country after a massive fireworks explosion in Sungai Kolok district of Narathiwat province killed 12 people, injured 121 others and damaged about 300 homes, 50 of which were completely destroyed.
According to the Thai newspaper “Bangkok Post”, the police said that about 52 other warehouses in the provinces should be checked to see if they were built with a proper license and that they are being used properly to prevent a recurrence of the incident that occurred on Saturday.
EOD teams must conduct a comprehensive survey of the blast site to determine the amount of illegally stored fireworks in the warehouse.
Lt. Gen. Santi said he initially believed at least 5 tons of fireworks were stored there.
