TGR makes refunds to 1.1 million taxpayers for $430 billion – 2024-05-07 06:50:06

Since last April 26, General Treasury of the Republic (TGR) began the return of Income Tax surplusesto 1,100,455 taxpayers who submitted their return between April 1 and 8, 2024. Of the total refunds made, 99.55% were made through electronic transfer, to bank accounts reported by each taxpayer during this first process.

“The global amount returned to taxpayers who submitted their income tax return between April 1 and April 8 reaches $430,808 million,” said the General Treasurer of the Republic, Hernán Nobizelli. He added that in this first phase of Operation Income 2024, TGR made legal withholdings from 174,086 taxpayers, for $36,081 million. He pointed out that the majority of these correspond to withholdings for solidarity university credit debts; credit with state guarantee; fines with Health Services and with the Labor Directorate, Sence, among other organizations.

Nobizelli also reported on the considerable increase in the withholding applied to taxpayers who appear in the National Registry of Food Pension Debtors, which is administered by the Civil Registry and Identification Service. She said that the withholding for this item applied to 9,992 taxpayers, for an amount of $1,574 million, almost four times higher than the amount retained during Operation Income of 2023, which amounted to $421 million.

“This year TGR has once again successfully complied with the return of income, despite the massiveness and complexity of the process, carried out in a short period, in this case 25 days,” stated Hernán Nobizelli. In this sense, Nobizelli highlighted the high operational and technological level deployed by the service in charge of him and the coordination with other organizations involved in this process.

The Treasurer called on taxpayers who have not yet filed their income tax return to file it within the established deadline, which expires this Friday, May 10. He recalled that those who completed this procedure before April 26 will receive their refund on May 20. Those who do so between April 27 and May 10 will have their surplus income on May 28, and those who have declared between April 9 and 19 will receive their refund on May 14.
