In the news the Conradian “shadow line” – which heralds an honored maturity and a discreet courage in changes – lies in a small strip. Today the Tg1 record the 24.4% share e 4.6 million viewers, respectively, plus 1.3% and plus 207 thousand compared to January 2023. An excellent performance for Agcom. A performance, but judged by Republic like a noticeable drop in listening. Both interpretations of the data are true. Unfortunately, Molinari’s newspaper forgets to specify that it is all generalist TV that has recorded a “conspicuous decline” in prime time, in all news programming and in the ratings of the main national news programs, during the first nine months of the year in reference to the same period of 2022.
Bear in mind that the great machine of Tg1 inflates its sails on the great events of which 2022 was very full: the story of Covid, the Ukrainian war, the election of Mattarella, the advent of Draghi, the election of the first female prime minister, the death of Queen Elizabeth, the football World Cup. It is a saraband of extraordinary and unpredictable events, of which the cameras of Tg1 and the spectators fed themselves voraciously. From the point of view of the information product, the result is an astral conjunction that is difficult to repeat. Obviously this applies to all broadcasters. However, with Chiocci the colleagues of Republic they omitted the evaluation of the context. And the mileu, dammit, is essential.
Furthermore, here Republic carefully avoids mentioning the revolution that the director of Tg1 is preparing, with patience, in six months of direction to this part, through small but continuous earthquakes. I quote randomly. The “sung mass” has been desacralized, relegating politics, often third or fourth news, in the layout, privileging the news. And it’s normal: Chiocci was born an investigator, but usually it’s politics that insinuates itself into the ganglia of the world Tg1.
