The EU will help Ukraine with a new ammunition procurement procedure
Taking into account Ukraine’s great need for ammunition, the European Union (EU) is working on a new procurement procedure, the EU’s top representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Joseph Borrell, announced at the Munich Security Conference on Sunday.
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas revealed that the aim is to use a procedure similar to the one used to purchase Covid-19 vaccines during the pandemic.
Callas said that EU countries should make money available, which would then be used to award major contracts to the defense industry through the EU. The procedure would ensure that the industry can make the necessary investments to expand production.
The Estonian prime minister said that Russia fires as many artillery shells in one day as Europe produces in a month, and Russian defense companies work in three shifts.
