A 39-year-old woman in the American state of Texas received chemotherapy for a rare form of blood vessel cancer for weeks, until it turned out that she did not actually have cancer at all. “I am very traumatized by this.”
Lisa Monk was diagnosed with angiosarcoma in 2023, a form of blood vessel cancer that is rare. She would only have fifteen months to live. “I went home to tell my two children,” she told the Daily Mail. “I kept quiet about the fact that I only had a short time to live, but only told them that it was serious.”
It was difficult for Monk to process this tragic news. She decided to write farewell letters to all her loved ones. Thinking about all the milestones she would miss made her burst into tears.
The day she was dreading arrived. Monk started her first rounds of chemotherapy. She lost all her hair, got all kinds of skin irritations and couldn’t stop vomiting. She prepared for her second rounds of treatments, only to be told she didn’t actually have cancer at all. All the cures had been for nothing.

“The nurse asked me again about my complaints,” Monk says. “Suddenly she had a worried look. She ran out of the treatment room to get a doctor. After fifteen minutes they came back. Using a lot of medical terms, the doctor told me that my cancer diagnosis turned out to be wrong.” The American initially thought that this message meant that her treatments were working, but that was not the case.
“The doctor congratulated me, but that really bothered me. I would have thought an apology would have been more appropriate.” The sad incident took place more than a year ago, but Monk is still experiencing the negative consequences of it to this day. “We are still paying hospital bills as not a single bill has been waived. I’m so furious with them.”
It is not yet clear how the hospital could have made such a big mistake. It is also unknown what Monk is actually suffering from and whether she is currently being treated.
