AFPMigrants walk next to the floating border wall between Mexico and Texas

The US Justice Department is suing the state of Texas for erecting a floating border wall in the Rio Grande River. That river forms the border between Mexico and the state of Texas.
Texas installed the roughly 1,000-foot-long barrier, consisting of a line of orange buoys, last week. Texas Governor Greg Abbott hopes this will stop migrants from crossing the river.
But according to the federal attorney general, the border wall is illegal because it requires permission from the White House to erect a border fortification. “This floating barrier poses a threat to shipping and public safety and raises humanitarian questions,” the attorney general said in a statement.
Buses with migrants
Texas and the White House have been at odds for some time over the security of the US-Mexico border. Republican Governor Abbott accuses President Biden of causing “a record amount of illegal immigration.”
Earlier, Abbott already sent buses with migrants to Democratic states in the north. He also had barbed wire stretched in the border area to thwart migrants.
The number of migrants caught illegally crossing the border between the two countries has fallen since President Biden introduced a new and stricter asylum policy in May. Still, about 100,000 illegal migrants were apprehended last month.
