Texas State Parks Return to Normal Capacity, Recommend Mask Wear Following Governor’s Order | Univision 62 Austin KAKW

“Wearing masks is strongly recommended for park visitors, especially when indoors or in areas where social distancing is difficult. In addition, restrictions affecting the size of groups have been removed, ”the statement reads.

“We are excited to welcome more visitors to our parks. We want Texans to know that the safety of our visitors and park staff is our top priority as we increase visitor capacity. Before civid-19, and over the last year, our parks have seen an increase in visitation and our teams are working hard to accommodate those who want to get out and experience the incredible natural and cultural resources that our parks have to offer, ”he said. Rodney Franklin, Director of Texas State Parks.

While most parks will be able to expand capacity immediately, others may continue to have some capacity limits. Some parks are still recovering from winter storm Uri and are completing repairs or have other operational considerations.

Capacity limits were already typical before the pandemic for some heavily trafficked parks, to protect natural resources and make the visitor experience safe and enjoyable.

Despite increased availability, many state parks are expected to reach capacity for both campers and day-use visitors on holidays and weekends, so making a reservation before visiting is recommended.

Visitors can purchase day passes up to a month in advance, ensuring access to the parks even during peak hours.

To purchase a day pass or reserve a campground, visit the State Park Reservations page on the Texas State Parks website or call (512) 389-8900.
