One of the arguments against passing the name, image and likeness reform was that the high variance in what players would get in an open market would “share a dressing room” now that players are benefiting from their NIL rights DeMarvion Overshown, the Texas football linebacker, says that reality is just the opposite.
Overshown was also an All-Big 12 Player of Honor in 2020 as a junior as a defensive MVP of Texas’ Alamo Bowl blowout from Colorado, and on July 1, he launched a line of merchandise and signed up with Cameo so he took full advantage of the situation.
He resigned on Thursday in the episode of 247Sports‘ on.College Football Daily Podcast and discusses how NIL has affected locker room dynamics, and has been pretty frank about the fact that stars in positions like quarterback make more money than linebackers, as is the case in the NFL.
Still, he says that everyone in Texas is happy teammates who get on well with NIL. “We all want everyone else to eat,” he told the podcast.

“I didn’t see a divide,” Overshown said when asked about this concern. “This locker room is so close I feel like we wouldn’t have this problem. Because everyone in here, if one eats, we want that everyone else eats.
“The O-Linemen recently posted something and you can see almost everyone in the team retweeting like ‘We need’ our big ones. Feed our big ones.” We all want us to eat together. “
That seems to be the case for most teams; there may be cases of jealousy, as is human nature, but for the most part college players want the NFL, and for the pros, the reality is that some players do earn more than others, and college players probably understand this very well.
Overshow also discussed that:
“We all knew when this rule came up that others make more money than you. Like (running back) Bijan (Robinson), (quarterback) Casey (Thompson) they are going to make money, and people know that. At the next level It’s the same. Quarterbacks are paid more than D-linemen and linebackers. “
NIL rules were opened on July 1st by the NCAA. It will be fascinating to see the wide range of offers these athletes get. For big programs like Texas Football it should be extremely lucrative.
