Texas Judge Grants Woman Permission for Abortion Due to Fatal Fetal Condition – Latest Update Dec 7, 2023

A judge in the American state of Texas has given a woman permission to have an abortion because the fetus has a fatal condition. According to American media, this is one of the first cases since the national right to abortion was abolished.

According to her lawyer, the abortion falls under the medical exceptions included in the very strict abortion law of Texas.

For example, the pregnancy would entail health risks for the 31-year-old mother of two children. It would also endanger her fertility.

Texas has one of the strictest abortion laws in the United States. The procedure is only permitted in very limited cases. This is what is allowed when the woman’s health is at risk.

Doctors think the legislation is too vague. That is why they are afraid of being legally prosecuted if they perform an abortion. An illegal abortion is punishable by up to 99 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000. Doctors can also lose their medical licenses.

In June 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned the famous 1973 Roe versus Wade ruling, putting an end to nationwide abortion rights. Since then, several states have restricted abortion rights.
