In the primaries, there is competition for the party’s presidential nomination. Based on the primary election winners, party convention representatives, i.e. delegates, who vote for the candidate at the party convention, are named.
Super Tuesday has traditionally predicted the course of presidential elections: the successful ones have often ended up winning their party’s primaries. This has happened, for example, to Joe Biden of the Democrats and Donald Trump of the Republicans.
