The government of Texas says it has sent more than 100,000 asylum seekers on buses to Democratic-led cities like New York and Chicago.which has housed a large number of people and is currently facing serious problems in providing shelter and support to new arrivals.
The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, noted in a statement that as of Friday, January 12, he has sent 101,000 migrants in charter buses with resources from his state to cities declared sanctuary.
The Republican started sending applicants to the destinations mentioned above, from April 2022as part of his strategy against the Joe Biden Administration, which he accuses of having an open borders policy.
The Big Apple is the city with the most asylum seekers so far, with 37,100 sent from the Texas border.
This fact has caused New York Mayor Eric Adams to sign an executive order limiting the arrival of buses from other states from Monday to Friday in the morning, and imposes punishments for those who do not comply.
