HOUSTON – Texas sadly surpassed a barrier that no one wants to pass amid the COVID-19 pandemic: 50,000 deaths from the virus.
The Texas Department of Health and Human Services reported that this Thursday 50,051 people died since the pandemic began in March last year.
According to official figures, Harris County with 6,372 deaths, followed by Dallas, Behar, Tarrant and El Paso counties with 4,051, 3,546, 3,046 and 2,695, respectively.
The state is the third with the highest number of deaths in the country, only behind California and New York and the second in infections behind California.
Texas has already exceeded the figure of 2.5 million infected.
Currently, there are 2,103 people hospitalized due to COVID-19, this being one of the lowest figures in almost a year.
To date, there are 9,552,532 fully vaccinated people in Texas and 12,032,096 who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
