Texas Authorities Search for 11-Year-Old Audrii Cunningham

On Thursday morning, February 15, the eleven-year-old girl Audrii Cunninghams left home to catch the school bus in the small town of Livingston in East Texas.

The girl, on the other hand, never got on the bus, or school, that day. When the 11-year-old did not get off the school bus that afternoon, the father’s warning lights flashed, says spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, Craig Cummings. That’s what ABC News writes.

Now they know what happened

Found backpack

The police are working on the assumption that a criminal act has taken place.

A small red “Hello Kitty” backpack, probably belonging to a child, was found near a nearby lake, local police said, according to CNN. The backpack should be relatively similar to Audrii’s backpack.

No one has been charged in the disappearance of the little girl, and her whereabouts remain a mystery.

A man in his 40s, on the other hand, has been questioned as a person of interest.

The man is said to have been arrested on Friday in an unrelated case of assault. He is said to have lived in a trailer near the girl’s family home, local police say. He is said to have also been a friend of the girl’s father.

– Can’t find words

Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons’ office said at a press conference Monday that investigators are working to determine what type of crime may have occurred.

Lyons also said they have not given up hope of finding the girl alive.

The man the police have questioned in connection with the case is said to have been the last to see the girl on the day of her disappearance. He is said to have followed Audrii to the bus several times in the morning, and has admitted to the police to have also followed her on the Thursday in question, writes CNN.

– There are no words for it. It is not one emotion that you feel. It’s a rollercoaster. You are broken, you are angry, you are empty. And right now I’m empty, the girl’s mother, Cassie Matthews, is said to have stated to the press.

In the heartbreaking statement, she explained how she has always felt compassion for the parents of missing children she heard about on the news. Now she herself is in the same situation.
