On September 1, the United States’ most radical abortion law came into force, despite legal attempts to block it, according to The Guardian.
Texas law prohibits abortion after six weeks of pregnancy. The law also states that every citizen in the state has the opportunity to sue an abortion provider, if the law is broken. The law does not provide exceptions for women who have been raped and incest.
Other states in the country have proposed similar laws, but the Texas law is the first to be implemented.
The reactions have not been long in coming. Thousands of women and men have recently demonstrated against the new law, around the country and the world. T-shirts, banners and appeals have sent out messages about how unwelcome the new law is.
“No womb, no meaning”, “my body, my choice”, “abortion is a human right”, are among the messages sent out by women who oppose the law change.
– Ignorance and ignorance
One of those who reacts most strongly is the Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known by the initials AOC. She takes a hard line against the governor of Texas, Gregory Wayne, and his “deep ignorance and ignorance”, after he defended the state’s new law and stated that the law will not require victims of rape and incest, because six weeks is a good time for one person to have an abortion.

The AOC calls the statement disgusting.
– I know that he is not familiar with a female, or menstruating body, because if he were, he would have known that you do not have six weeks, the congresswoman said on Wednesday.
Furthermore, the AOC explained the biology surrounding a pregnancy.
– If no one has informed him earlier in life, then six weeks of pregnancy also means that you are two weeks late in the cycle. Two weeks delay can happen if you are stressed, if you change your diet, or for no reason at all. You do not have six weeks, she emphasized and concluded:
– He speaks from a place of deep ignorance and ignorance. And not just ignorance, but ignorance that hurts.
Abbot has been out defending the new law and its lack of exemption for victims of sexual violence, and promised that the state will be cleansed of all rape and sexual abuse.

Plaintiff Texas
At a briefing on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki taunted the governor’s comments.
“Well, if Governor Abbott has a means of eliminating all rapists and all rape in the country, then there would be two-party support for it,” Psaki said.
Others wonder how Abbot will do it every day, and if so, why it has not been done before.
On Thursday night Norwegian time, the US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Texas, according to Reuters. Justice Minister Merrick Garland believes the legislation is unconstitutional, saying that the government has an obligation to ensure that no state can deprive people of constitutional rights.
US President Joe Biden also condemned the new law and reaffirmed the White House’s support for abortion rights and self-determination.
“This extreme Texas law clearly violates the constitutional law established under Roe V. Wade, which has been maintained as a precedent for nearly half a century,” Biden said in a statement.
