Tests for COVID-19 antibodies are coming back to Biedronka

The Biedronka chain is introducing an additional batch of tests confirming antibodies against COVID-19. Certified Swiss Primacovid tests will again be available in all stores of the chain from Friday 19 March for PLN 49.99. Tests do not detect current coronavirus infection.

The Primacovid test offer of the Swiss company PRIMA Lab appeared in Biedronka stores on March 15 this year. met with great interest from buyers – tests sold out very quickly. Therefore, the network decided to re-sell these tests, which are used to detect IgG and IgM antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 in the tested person.

– It is a product meeting high standards, the producer of which is a certified Swiss laboratory. It was probably also the reason why the vast majority of stores in our chain quickly sold the entire volume of Primacovid. Seeing the buyers’ interest and considering the pandemic situation, we came to the conclusion that the next batch of tests should be available in our network facilities this week – says Piotr Konopko, commercial director at the Biedronka chain, quoted in the announcement.

What is the effectiveness of the Biedronka test?

Primacovid is a test that allows you to determine the presence of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2. A small blood sample is used to perform it. You can expect results after about 10 minutes. Primacovid evaluation reports indicate sensitivity of 98.92 percent for IgG antibodies and 92.98 percent for IgM antibodies compared to a reference method (ELISA). The combined specificity of the IgG and IgM assay is 98.3 percent.

– Serological tests such as Primacovid belong to the so-called indirect diagnostics. Therefore, they enable the recognition of an infection that has already been diagnosed in people with asymptomatic or mild infection. They can also be performed in patients with complications of the disease who have not been genetically tested and in those who may have come into contact with SARS-CoV-2 infected, but do not meet the criteria for performing RT-PCR genetic tests. However, it is important that, in case of doubts as to the results, go to the primary care physician who will interpret them accurately – says Łukasz Pietrzak, pharmacist, expert of the medical portal Lek.pl

The test does not detect or verify the effect of any COVID-19 vaccine – gives Biedronka.

Pimacovid recommends that If you are positive for IgG and / or IgM antibodies, see your doctor immediately and report the result. In case of a negative result, if there are symptoms attributable to COVID-19, you should also see your doctor.

Launch COVID-19 antibody tests he also wants the Carrefour chain, a similar product is to appear soon also in Lidl.
